A new direct air route from Exmouth (WA) to Melbourne (VIC) from 30 April 2023 opens up new opportunities for Exmouth and the region.

Deputy Premier Roger Cook MLA announced the new air route this morning while visiting Exmouth. Flights will commence after the Ningaloo Eclipse next year from 30 April 2023 to 26 October 2023 twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Qantas is offering special airfares from today, with prices from $399 one-way when booked at least 45 days in advance and subject to availability.

So whether you're travelling to Melbourne to see friends and relatives, or Melbournians heading to Exmouth to experience the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Coast, one thing is clear: the new air route will enable residents and visitors to enjoy unique vacation experiences on both sides of the country without a lengthy overlay in Perth.

The new air route will provide a vital bridge between Exmouth and the Eastern States, enabling us to stay connected to loved ones.

The connection LEA - MEL will allow residents and visitors to travel easily between locations in less than five hours; opening up Exmouth as a designated travel destination for shorter trips.

Beyond just getting people where they need to go, the new air route will play a critical role in helping Exmouth thrive economically. It will be essential to open up Exmouth to new tourism markets. And with more people than ever seeking unique vacation experiences in nature and culture, there's no doubt that a successful trial period could continue to be a cornerstone of our sustained economic growth in the future.

The new direct flight is supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA and the Shire of Exmouth. All parties will be reviewing the route performance in September 2023.

Ningaloo Reef is one of the most extraordinary places in Australia and Exmouth was quite fittingly recognised recently as Australia's Top Small Tourism Town. Today's announcement is a win for visitors but also for tourism operators and local businesses in the region.
