34 kilograms of rubbish collected from Town Beach post-Total Solar Eclipse
On 29 April, more than 30 volunteers took to a 3-kilometre stretch of Town Beach for a beach clean-up event in an effort to #keepexmouthclean after the Total Solar Eclipse. The Shire of Exmouth collaborated with Keep Australia Beautiful, Cape Conservation Group and Sea Shepherd to organise this successful clean-up. This event marks the first joint effort of this nature— but not the last.
Town Beach wasn't as badly littered as many feared it might be after the eclipse events, though there was still plenty of work for volunteers.
They collected more than 1,550 pieces of rubbish, totalling 34 kilograms in weight. The most commonly found items were:

- 312 cigarette butts
- 177 hard and solid bits of plastic
- 139 broken glass/ceramic
- 130 pieces of miscellaneous paper
- 112 plastic film remnants
After the beach clean-up, organisers thanked volunteers for their hard work with a sausage sizzle.
